I’ve read a lot about Cambodia’s tragic history in the late 20th century, in which millions perished. This is the story of an ordinary boy, and what his particular family endured. Even though I knew he, and most of his family members, managed to survive, it was still difficult to read his account. This book is clearly written, and I recommend it both for adults and older mature children, who want a deeper understanding of the human toll of one of the darkest periods of history.
